Glass and Glazing: When it comes to glazing (glass) there is a variety of choices. We can show you samples of each and help you identify the different types and what would work best for your art.

  • Premium clear glass is an affordable option that will protect your art from dust and dirt but will not protect it from ultraviolet rays from florescent lighting and the sun. It is also highly reflective preventing you from clearly viewing your art.

  • Non-Glare Glass is glass that has been etched on one or both sides that diffuses the light to reduce the glare. This type of glass gives a matte, finished look to your art but will also dull the image under the glass, especially if there are multiple mats. Non-Glare glass also does not protect your art from harmful UV rays.

  • Anti-Reflective Glass has a specially-designed coating which reflects a very low percentage of light. It offers maximum transparency and optical clarity, allowing optimum viewing through the glass at all times.  This glass delivers more vivid colors and subtle effects of texture are more evident, and reflection is virtually eliminated.

  • Conservation Glass also known as Preservation Glass filters up to 97% of Ultra-Violet rays that can cause irreversible fading and damage to your art. You can also get Conservation Glass with a Non-Glare coating. This glass should be used on any art that is important or valuable.

  • Museum Glass blocks out almost all ultraviolet light and has an Anti-Reflective coating which virtually eliminates all glare. It has been so finely manufactured that this glass looks almost invisible. It is used by many museums. This is the ultimate glazing option.

  • Acrylic or PlexiGlas is not really glass at all, it is a form of hard plastic and is much lighter than glass. Acrylic is almost impossible to break and can be treated with ultraviolet filter to protect the work of art. Yet, acrylic surfaces have a propensity for attracting dust and scratching easily and cannot be cleaned with regular glass cleaner.
